The City of Ottawa is looking to cash in on solar energy.

Solar panels have been installed on the rooftop of City Hall and the OC Transpo building on Belfast Road, which will generate electricity for the provincial grid.

Councillor Maria McRae tells CFRA News the City could partner with Hydro Ottawa to install up to 20 more solar panels on City buildings, generating revenues of $200-thousand a year for the City.

It costs $220-thousand to outfit the buildings with solar panels, which Hydro Ottawa will use to sell the energy to the Ontario Power Authority.

Hydro Ottawa would cover the installation of the rooftop panels if the plan is approved by Council.
