Arizona Public Service Co. has received approval from Flagstaff Unified School District’s governing board to install solar panels in the district.

The panels are part of APS’ Community Power Project, designed to generate about 1.5 megawatts of power from rooftop solar panels in the northern Arizona city. APS would own the panels.

The approval from Flagstaff Unified covers a 400-kilowatt solar system at Sturgeon Cromer Elementary School.

Under terms of the deal, the district does not have to foot any up-front costs, but will pay for the power produced at a price locked in for 20 years.
