PORTLAND – SoloPower Inc. abandoned plans for a new plant in Wilsonville and was expected to announce the plant would open in Portland.

Portland officials announced the deal Friday for San Jose-based SoloPower, which makes thin-film solar panels, would begin operations in the Rivergate neighborhood of North Portland. At first, they will provide 170 jobs with hopes of development for 500 positions.

“Having these jobs in North Portland permits workers to perform near exactly where they reside, and SoloPower’s selection to website their facility in the region tends to make wonderful use of this enterprise zone,” Portland Rep. Tina Kotek said. “This is what we mean when we speak about job creation and economic growth. The difficulties with the recession are far from above, but we are able to and ought to celebrate the development and improvement we see.”
Officials
stated the average salary would be about $51,000.

Prior plans for a Wilsonville former Nike Inc. distribution facility site have been abandoned soon after petitioners place the issue on a ballot for this fall, Sustainable Business Oregon the publication stated.
